The first steps in the construction project will be the removal of two trees. The large tree surrounded by a bench near the North doors will be removed first. That tree is dead and needs to come down with or without the construction project. The second tree is an Ash, also on the north side. Ash trees locally are threatened by the Emerald Ash Borer and this tree will also eventually have to come down. The great news is that our hard-working team of volunteers has come up with more than $100,000 in grants to pay for this project and that will also include the removal of the trees.
Any salvageable wood from the trees will be reused to make seating and other items for the school. The stump from the large tree will be kept as an educational tool for kids.
The next step will be the removal of the concrete sidewalk on the north side. It will be replaced with permeable pavers that will provide for a wider path to accommodate all our students, strollers, and parents.
From there on, the project will probably move quickly and hopefully be wrapped up within about six months. You can see more details about the plan here.
A few other notes from last night's PTO meeting:
- all our online donations are now being processed through the Omaha Schools Foundation, which means we keep 100% of the money. (You can donate any time here.)
- The PTO is looking for nominations or volunteers for next year, including Vice President, T-Shirt Committee co-chair, and Enrichment committee help.
- Sock Hop is tonight and all the proceeds will be donated to Ms. Andersen to help with Sabrina's cancer-related expenses.
- The yearbook committee needs people to upload any photos they have, particularly of the 1st day of school, playground pictures, and old pictures of Dundee school and students
The next PTO meeting will be Thursday, March 2 in the Dundee Cafeteria at 6:30 (due to Book Fair happening in the library). See you then!
